Billy Graham’s Legacy Lives On

As I stood in National Statuary Hall, surrounded by the esteemed members of Congress, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe and reverence. The occasion was the unveiling of a statue of the late, great Billy Graham, a man who dedicated his life to spreading the message of Christ. The statue, crafted by Charlotte-based artist Chas Fagan, stands 7 feet tall, with Graham holding an open Bible in his left hand and his right gesturing palm-down above the page.

The ceremony was a testament to Graham’s enduring legacy, with U.S. Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC) offering a heartfelt gospel invitation, urging those present to accept Christ into their lives. It was a poignant reminder that, despite our differences, we are all united in our quest for salvation.

Graham’s life was a shining example of compassion, humility, and dedication to his faith. As U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) so eloquently put it, Graham was a trailblazer in race relations, speaking out against segregation and sharing his platform with Black ministers, including Martin Luther King Jr.

The statue’s base bears the inscription of John 3:16 and John 14:6, a poignant reminder of Graham’s unwavering commitment to his faith. As his son, Franklin Graham, so aptly put it, his father would have wanted the focus to be on Jesus Christ, not on himself.

As I gazed upon the statue, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the impact Billy Graham had on my life. His message of hope and redemption resonated deeply with me, and I know I’m not alone. Graham’s legacy is a testament to the power of faith, and a reminder that we can all make a difference in the world.
