Spooky Season is Here in Fitchburg
The air is filled with anticipation as the Halloween season unfolds in our quaint region of Fitchburg. The local charm radiates through the windows and yards as residents go all out to create spine-tingling displays that set the perfect mood for this eerie holiday.
Take, for instance, the mesmerizing Halloween display at the Descarreaux residence. Lifelong Fitchburg resident Amy Descarreaux and her family have established a tradition of transforming their home at 1034 Rindge Rd. into a frightful wonderland since they moved in 2016. This year, they have once again donned their spooky hats, readying the house for its annual opening to the community on October 25 and 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. The sight of glowing blowups and delightfully chilling decorations invites both kids and parents alike to experience the playful side of fright.
Fun and fright await around every corner!
Beyond just the Descarreauxs, the entire community has jumped in, eager to showcase their creativity. Just this past weekend, Halloween on Tolman kicked off in Leominster. This nonprofit initiative aims to raise funds to support local families in need, reinforcing the spirit of giving during what can often be a commercially driven holiday. Families are encouraged to explore the ghoulish yet family-friendly display, complete with whimsical blowups and a photo area featuring none other than Frankenstein himself. They accept donations, with a minimum suggestion of just $5, contributing to a great cause while enjoying the thrilling decorations.

Speaking of local legends, did you know that Leominster is home to the iconic plastic flamingo? Though it’s traveled widely across many lawns in the country, the goth twist of a zombie flamingo is now making its rounds this Halloween. For those wanting to add a hint of whimsy to their outdoor display, the Main Street Gift & Café offers a fascinating array of Halloween goodies, including these quirky bird lawn ornaments.
Having a little fun while decorating can brighten up our spirits as the days grow shorter and the nights cooler.
Community comes alive with Halloween spirit!
While children may be fixated on the prospect of candy, it’s the community involvement and creativity that makes this holiday truly special. I recall fondly coming home each Halloween, the air thick with excitement as I donned my costumes — from ghosts to superheroes — and darted from house to house. Not just for sweets, but for the thrill of exploring homes transformed into haunted escapades, each creator boasting their unique interpretation of fright.
As we prepare for a weekend of joyous trick-or-treating, both adults and kids alike will find memories waiting to be made on the streets of Fitchburg. Whether it’s experiencing the frightful display at Amy’s house or venturing to Leominster’s Halloween on Tolman display, we are reminded that this time of year isn’t just about the treats — it’s about the creativity, the community coming together, and the art of playful fear.
Remember, these displays do not just deepen the spirit of the season, they create connections between neighbors and families. So, grab your costumes, encourage your children to hop down the street and partake in this enjoyment, and maybe — just maybe — be brave enough to step inside the creative sanctuaries crafted by those who flamboyantly embrace the fun of October.
