Halloween Holler: A Spook-tacular Community Event
Embracing the Spirit of Halloween
Unleashing the magic of Halloween in Beverly.
Nestled in the heart of Beverly, for over three decades, Pat Lewis has been the driving force behind what has become a beloved Halloween tradition: the Haunted Halloween Holler. This initiative began with modest lawn decorations and a few twinkling lights at the Lewis family farm but has since grown into a sprawling spectacle that draws families from all over.
“I’ve been doing this in my yard for 30 years and it just continues to grow each fall,” remarked Lewis.
This year, the event boasts a range of exciting attractions including a Spider Patch, Pumpkin Patch, a sprawling Corn Field Maze, and even a Haunted House. With approximately two acres of Halloween-themed activities, the Holler provides a magical escape for children who often lack affordable holiday options.
A Generous Heart
Lewis’s motivation is simple yet profound: the community’s children deserve a fun and free venue to celebrate Halloween.
“We started doing this because the kids around here don’t have anything for Halloween. And what is around here is expensive, so I don’t charge anything to get in.”
Located at 546 Middleridge Road in Beverly, accessing the Haunted Halloween Holler is as easy as taking a turn off Scotts Lake Road, near the AHF plant. As the event has expanded, so too has the anticipated foot traffic. Over 100 visitors flocked to see the spectacle last Saturday alone, an encouraging turnout that reflects the community’s embrace of this annual festivity.
Isn’t Halloween fun?
According to Lewis, this year’s festivities include 14 impressive yard ornaments towering over 8 feet tall, with some reaching upwards of 12 feet. Each ornament has been brought to life, moving and talking in an enchanting display that captivates children and adults alike.
The Preparation Process
The festive transformation of the Lewis’s yard isn’t a last-minute scramble. Lewis and her grandchildren start preparing for Halloween as early as August, dedicating considerable time to the intricate setup.
“My two grandkids and I worked at least five hours a day to get it ready,” said Lewis. “It takes two hours a day just to hook everything up and get it going.”
Every tree and bush is adorned with Halloween lights, creating a whimsical atmosphere that beckons families to explore. Lewis emphasizes that families should feel free to stop by after trick-or-treating — the Haunted Halloween Holler operates on a flexible schedule to accommodate the community’s festivities.
“I always tell the kids to come after they get done trick-or-treating on Halloween,” she noted. “We are in no hurry, and kids can trick-or-treat first and then come see us.”
Conclusion: A Gnome-orable Event
As the sun sets on Halloween night, the Haunted Halloween Holler stands as a beacon of community spirit and generosity. With free entry and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s no wonder that this event has become a cherished highlight of Beverly’s Halloween celebrations.
