Gorilla on the Loose: The Great Garden Heist
As I sat in my backyard, sipping lemonade and enjoying the warm sun on my face, I couldn’t help but think of Gary, the eight-foot gorilla statue stolen from Reynard Nursery in Carluke, Lanarkshire. It’s been almost three weeks since the daring heist, and I’m still reeling from the news.

The thieves, caught on CCTV, arrived at the nursery in a white van, removed the bolted-down statue, and drove off into the night. The owner, Andrew Scott, was left heartbroken, pleading for Gary’s safe return. “He’s of no use to anyone else, he’s better here where he belongs. This is his home,” he said.

But now, there’s hope. A motorist has spotted a lookalike of Gary strapped to a trailer on the M40 near Warwick Services. Could this be our beloved gorilla? The nursery is urging anyone traveling in the area to keep an eye out for Gary.

As I imagine Gary’s journey, I’m reminded of my own childhood adventures in the garden. My siblings and I would spend hours exploring, creating our own games, and making memories that would last a lifetime. Gary, too, was a part of someone’s garden, bringing joy to all who saw him.

The police are still investigating, and I can only hope that Gary will soon be back home, bringing smiles to the faces of the nursery’s visitors once again.
