The Great Griffin Heist: A Calgary Couple’s Quest for Justice
As I sat down to write this article, I couldn’t help but think of the countless times I’ve driven past a beautifully manicured lawn, only to spot a majestic statue proudly standing guard. But what happens when that sense of security is shattered, and the unthinkable occurs? For Chris Lewis and Michelle Cheverie, a Calgary couple, that unthinkable event became a harsh reality when their cherished 300-pound griffin statue was stolen from their front yard.

The statue, a beautiful and spectacular piece, stood roughly three feet tall and was a wedding gift to the couple. Michelle fondly remembered the statue as looking rather ‘regal’ on their front lawn. But on that fateful Sunday, the couple awoke to find their beloved ornament missing.

While Michelle isn’t sure who stole the griffin statue or why, she has a theory. ‘I really believe that somebody, they had sourced this out and got some buddies together and it’s probably sitting in somebody’s party room right now,’ she said. Chris, on the other hand, thinks whoever has the statue isn’t going to display the ornament in their garden or front lawn anytime soon. ‘I believe it’s probably been done as a group of people that think it might be something cool to have in their garage,’ he said.

The couple is considering turning to the police for help but remain optimistic they’ll be able to locate the missing ornament soon. They are planning to distribute flyers with a picture of the statue to help expand their search.

As I reflect on this bizarre incident, I’m reminded of the importance of community and the power of perseverance. Chris and Michelle’s story serves as a poignant reminder that even in the face of adversity, hope and determination can lead to a triumphant conclusion.

Let’s hope that Chris and Michelle’s griffin statue is returned to its rightful owners, and their front yard is once again filled with the beauty and majesty it deserves.
